Tomato Sauce

tomato sauceTomato sauce is a good and tasty addition to very many meals. It’s especially good to use with vegetables, and is very popular as an ‘accompaniment’ for pasta.

  • 1 onion
  • 1/ ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
  • 2 tsp dried basil or 1 handful of fresh basil, chopped
  • salt & freshly ground pepper to taste

This is one of the simplest recipes that we can offer you.
Fry the onion and garlic in oil until soft, but not brown. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato puree, 1/3 cup water and basil. Simmer gently for 20 mins until thickened. Season to taste.

You can also try this tomato sauce out with the mushroom nut roast.
