The peculiarity of French cuisine is plenty of vegetables and root crops. Potatoes, kidney beans, various kinds of onion, spinach, cabbages of all kinds, tomatoes, eggplants, celery, parsley, and lettuce are used for coking snacks, first and second courses, and for side dishes as well.

There are also such typical meals for the French as omelets and cheese souffles which they cook with various seasonings and fillings (mushrooms, greens, and vegetables). Well actually these meals are not eatable for many vegetarians.

As to first courses the french really love cream soup with leek and potatoes, and onion soup filled with cheese.

In comparison to other countries of Western Europe French chefs use less dairy products. Of course we don’t mention here different kinds of cheese that are famous all around the world. Cheese meal and green salad are always served before dessert.

It often happens that at big parties, birthday or wedding dinners when a lot of people with different tastes are gathered at one place there are both vegetarians and meat-lovers.

And both of these tow groups of people feel comfortable in attitude to each other because at solemn occasions people hardly pay attention to what the rest is eating, they are more interested in what’s happening around rather than in food.

But when a dinner is limited to a small number of people (such as five or seven), and some of them vegetarians and some are meat-lovers the latter sometimes feel uncomfortable. And you know why? Because they think that they make vegetarians they dinner with feeling uncomfortable. Funny, right? Vegetarians in their turn can treat this in different ways. People are so strange animals…

If you also feel uncomfortable in the described situation then why don’t you think of becoming a vegetarian?

We have recently mentioned that vegetarians are always trying to eat healthy food. It is crucial because simply not eating meat does not meat that you stick to healthy nutrition. It is much more than this. Among other important matters there is one that concerns organic and genetically modified food. Genetically modified food contradicts to all laws of nature and thus can’t be considered as vegetarian. Moreover further researches in this field put under threat the existence of organic food in general however unreal and hysteric it may sound. It’s not occasionally that we start looking for GM sign at cans and wraps of food that we buy and feel relief if we don’t find it (which actually doesn’t give you a 100 per cent guarantee that this product does not have genetically modified components).

GM food is proved to cause harmful changes in our bodied that can lead to terrible diseases. That is only one more reason to buy organic food. Don’t try to save some money on cheaper GM products, your health is much more valuable, it’s priceless! Use organic – it is more vegetarian than anything else.

Being a vegetarian is not something extraordinary today. More and more people join the circle of vegetarians everyday. For most of them it’s a natural process, and they neither make any announcements about it, nor agitate their friends, relatives, and random strangers to become vegetarians. They simply follow general or their own vegetarian rules and feel happy and comfortable about this.

But there is also a certain per cent of people who can be called ‘active vegetarians’. They behave totally different. First of all these active vegetarians strictly follow the rules of veganism, i.e. they do not eat meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products. But that’s not all, and possibly only a part of the deal for them. They are proud of being vegetarians, and actively agitate as many people as they can to join them. For people who do not share such beliefs it may seem a bit strange. But one thing is pretty obvious and clear: there is absolutely nothing bad about this. If take a look at this from another point of view there is really something to be proud of because being a vegetarian is not that easy, and so many people can’t make it and give it up. So, vegetarians, be proud of yourself!

Some people claim that vegetarians (especially those who do not eat any meat at all, even fish) look better, healthier, and younger… and live longer.

How could this be explained? To their opinion everything is very simple. They say that meat contains some materials that make both human being and meat-eating animals grow old faster.

Of course we all know that meat contains a lot of protein that is so important for our body because it generates energy which we need for living. Besides, meat contains well digestible form of ferrum and vitamin B12.

Many people who are trying to “turn into” vegetarians in a while start feeling difficulties with not eating meat and consequently feel like “Help! I want meat!”, and fall to the ground. And certainly they can’t believe that lie without meat could be longer because it seems to them that they are already dieing. Well, of course not all people are able to become and stay truly vegetarian. But some of them just don’t know what products they can substitute meat with.

Going back to the subject we can say that possibly vegetarians live longer not (or not only) because they do not eat meat, but also because they think and care more about eating healthier food.

Have you ever thought What Makes People Become vegetarian?
