Ideas And Tips For Using Wine In Cooking

Wine is a great drink for all sorts of occasions. It goes so well with different foods and the dessert wines are an amazing way to end a meal. But as well as just enjoying the wine on its own you can also use it as part of your cooking. Here are some great tips on how to do this.

Adds Great Flavour

Wine is a really good ingredient to use because it adds a lot of great taste to many foods.

Naturally once you heat it, as well as the fact that you often only use a bit, it doesn’t get anyone eating the food drunk either since the alcohol evaporates. Therefore the whole family can enjoy the great taste.

One of the best tips to consider doing is to make use of your leftover wine in food recipes. You often open a bottle just because you want a glass of wine and then wonder what to do with the rest. Although you can always just re-cork it and consume within three days you might still have some for left over.

Other times you might need a few drops for food but don’t know what to do with the rest. Freezing your wine is a great way to enjoy it later as part of your food. Lifehacker provides this great tip on their website. Just use your ice-cube trays and pour the wine on them. Once frozen you can then use them later in foods or even in drinks as a flavour once they melt.

Less Fats

The great thing about wine is also the fact that you can use it in cooking to improve your health. Not only does wine have a lot of great benefits on its own, but you can also reduce the amount of oil and butter you use if you use wine instead.

For example, if you want to sauté some vegetables you can use a bit of wine instead of butter. Sauté the vegetables in a mix of oil and wine instead of using oil and butter. You can also reduce the amount of oil or butter you use in marinades by cutting the portion to half and adding wine for the remaining part.

Try Out This Recipe

There are so many good wine recipes that you should test out. To get you started here is one great tried and tested recipe, which uses wine.

Red Wine Pasta With Romano

This recipe is from the Real Simple website and is a perfect recipe for red wine. You’ll need the following ingredients:

1 pound dried linguine

2 tbsp salt

1/2 bottle of red wine of your choice

1/3 cup shaved Romano

1/2 tsp blacked pepper

1 tsp lemon zest

Cook the linguine and salt in boiling water for around seven minutes. Drain and return to the pot. In a different pot bring the wine to a simmer. Pour it in with the drained linguine and place over medium heat. Cook, occasionally tossing, until wine is almost absorbed. Remove from heat and oil and mix. Sprinkle with the Romano, pepper and lemon zest and enjoy!
